Summer Medical Service Programs
Global Health Academy- Summer Medical Service Programs is open to individual qualified health students entering their Junior or Senior year of high school. Students will participate as a cohort to gain valuable skills working alongside local doctors to deliver medical services and public health campaigns in rural under resourced communities in Belize and Panama. Students play an important part of the delivery model of an internationally recognized global health nonprofit organization.
The cohort spends the first few days with our medical team learning about the Belize and Panamanian healthcare system and partnering with a rural elementary school to provide health screenings, dental care, and educational campaigns. In the following three days students will support our medical teams to provide mobile medical clinics providing patient consults and prescribe treatment for acute illnesses. Students work in triage, shadow physicians, provide education workshops, and help to distribute medicine in the pharmacy as well as help to build capacity of community health workers (CHWs) on chronic illness screening techniques.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS:
- Entering Junior or Senior Year of HS
- CPR/1ST Aid Certificate
- Resume demonstrating medical assisting experience
- Teacher letter of recommendation
